Flowers, 2017

Grandma Camp, 2017 at Gateway Park Campground, in Hillsdale, MI

My sister and I embarked on yet another Grandma Camp.  I had 6 campers and she had three.  The kids slept in several tents this year, which was new.  Makenna and Effie slept in Effie's tent, Mason and Vinny slept in Vinny's tent, Magnus tried to sleep in his tent, and Oliver slept in his tent.  Dashiell and Alayna bunked in with me, in the camper.  The weather was fantastic and the kids had lot of time for playground, pool, and crafts.  We made tie-dyed shirts the first day and macrame bracelets the second day.  Nolan and Michelle visited during the day and Nick, Mellisa, and Annalisa visited during the evenings.
This year the kids cooked some of their own meals over the fire.  We had walking tacos the first night, and pie iron pizzas for lunch on day two.  Hobo pies were on the menu for supper of day two, but it turned out to be a pot luck of left overs...some had pizza, and some had tacos.  Breakfast on the fire was also assorted.  Vinny tried a recipe from his camp cookbook with sausage, cheese, and scrambled eggs.  Magnus had a bagel, along with Alayna.  Oliver gets the prize in my book for this year with his perseverance on making pancakes in the pie irons.  He also cleaned them very well when he was finished.  Nice job, Oliver!
Magnus has been camping with me since he was two and this year his brother and cousin started the tradition at the ages of three each.  I love this tradition!  I hope to continue for several more years...it can only get easier, right?  As they get older I think the activities may change from crafts to kayaking, but that will be fun, too.

Grandma's Garden 2017: Mother's Day Weekend

These are the flowers on the way to the door.  Grandma can see them out the window, from her chair.
The "garden" before we started planting.
Nolan was content to be outside and watch the action, as long as he had a graham cracker to munch on while he watched.
Anthony and Izzy and the bubbles that smelled like oranges.  Rachel is in the background.
Alayna and Grandma are having a discussion about the pictures they are looking at.
Alayna is getting the chair out that I just put into the bag.
Alayna, sitting in the chair to talk to grandma.
This is my grandma, Margaret Jean King.  She is 95 in this photo, taken May 22, 2017.

Here Comes Summer 2017!

Our first camping trip, in April, was cold and not such a great weekend to camp.  Last weekend we camped again.  It rained over an inch.  Everything was green and lush to look at, but not the greatest weather for a campfire.  We did get a lot of Hand and Foot cards played.  That was fun!

You just can't beat the winter sunsets in lower Michigan.  Lots of clouds make for pretty displays.

Walkin' in the Rain

Well, Pudge and I have been walking since March.  Today we had a partial walk to the mailbox and then headed home in a thunderstorm.  My Aunt May said weather is no excuse for not walking, but I believe she also stated that a person could put on a coat, or boots, or, perhaps, carry an umbrella?  Ah, next time.  We only got a little bit wet.  I didn't melt and Pudge could use the shower.
