The Kid Can Run!

Although all of my children have some amount of athletic ability, I am pleasantly surprised - or increasingly pleased - about Erik's ability.  Erik is not like either of my other children - not that he is better or worse, he is simply unlike Christopher or Michelle.  Christopher was always very well disciplined - even in his younger days.  Michelle shares some of Erik's "lack of enthusiasm for manual labor" but always had an inner drive that allowed her to do better than the average athlete.  Christopher was a studier and a bit of a perfectionist.  Erik is a follower and a bit of a perfectionist.  I am excited about Erik's new passion for his ability.  It is building a bit of self-esteem in him that will hopefully prompt him to overcome his insecurities that cause him to be so shy in front of people.  (He really isn't shy in the true sense, but it is something he thinks he can use to get out of things.)
Erik has begun to prove himself on the track in the short races and it has been a lot of fun to watch him learn to be a winner!  He has a great, patient coach who he looks up to a great deal.  He says he is afraid of Joey, but I can't for the life of me know why!!  I don't really think he is because he talks about him all the time - Joey and Christopher.  He really wants to be like his brother, but he would never admit that.  Maybe it isn't that he wants to be like him so much as it is that he seeks his approval because he views Christopher as the great track and field Guru.
Now, if I could get the child to eat like an athlete...
The way I have it figured, we have a good four years ahead of us in sports.
Bleacher butt, here I come!!

Life Springs Anew!

Pudge loves all the new changes to her backyard.  She had a blast when Magnus was able to go outside and play with her!  The maple tree is budding out, the worms are busy, unfortunately, my lonely trillium is trying to stay hidden from the deer and the cowslips are brightening up the scenery along Butternut Creek.  Isn't spring grand!

Busy Weekend

What a busy weekend. Beginning on Friday with Erik's track meet, followed by a wedding on Saturday and Annie's graduation from Eastern on Sunday - in the morning!! Whew! I was glad to get back home and dig in the dirt for a while...

Coyote Hil

We took a walk and ended up back on the hills.  That is a good walk and excellent practice for browsing around in Alaska!  Pudge got to go with us.  Erik found a catapult made by Mother Nature, and we also found a hornet's nest high in the trees.  Good family time today.  :)

Good-bye Cedar Trees

We pulled out a few of the cedar trees that were back on the hills.  We mostly got rid of sumac and scrub bushes.  We did fill in a few holes and dug out some rocks.  It really was a beautiful day!

Spring Day

We had a great day with family today.  The sun was shining and the air was warm.  We had to deal with a few snakes, but I guess we will just have to get over that.  Coyote Hills are now a bit safer for our littlest sledders next winter.  We discussed putting in a tow rope, but that would be more for the oldest sledders, I guess!  I think we will make a fire pit so that we can stay warm when we go sledding.  Christopher and Pam will be in charge of that since they were unable to participate today!  (They don't know that yet!!)  :)
